Putt Preview is an independent software project based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, focused on bringing practical augmented reality technology to golf putting.

Like many golfers, I've spent years trying to understand why some days on the greens feel effortless while others don't. Putt Preview grew from a simple idea: practice should provide meaningful feedback without interrupting the natural rhythm of putting.                      ____________________________________________________

 OUR STORY:  Many years ago, I walked a practice round with Mark McNulty, who was one of the world's top golfers during the 1980s and 1990s. He putted every putt twice and shot a remarkable 63 that day.

I've never forgotten the experience. The first putt seemed to preview the line; the second built confidence.

My name is Russ Kalil, and the road to Putt Preview began in an unexpected place.

Several years ago, while experimenting with augmented reality technology for cue sports, I developed software that could track objects and guide player movement with remarkable precision. Although that project never reached the market, much of the underlying technology would later find a new purpose.

In 2023, after more than my share of three-putts, I turned my attention from cue sports to golf—and discovered a fascinating challenge.

Since then, I've spent countless hours designing, coding, and testing, personally hitting thousands of putts on practice mats and local greens in different conditions and lighting. Ironically, I've spent far more time studying putting than actually playing golf.

Today, Putt Preview remains largely a solo effort: an attempt to combine technology, analytics, and a love of the game into something practical for everyday golfers.

Encouraged by feedback from PGA professionals and amateur golfers alike, I'm excited to share it with players who, like me, are still chasing that elusive even-par round.
