Frequently Asked Questions

Version 2.0

What devices are supported?

Putt Preview requires an iPhone 13 Pro / Pro Max or newer. iPad devices and non-Apple platforms are not currently supported.

Does attaching the phone affect the feel of my putter?

Putt Preview mounts above your hands using the supplied holder. The system is designed to preserve the natural feel of the putter while allowing the camera to track the stroke and surrounding environment.

For a detailed review, please see Menu > Documents for our Putter MOI & Shaft Weight document.

How does the app identify the cup and golf ball?

Putt Preview uses machine learning to detect golf cups, the supplied indoor cup marker and white golf ball. When a cup is identified, the app automatically places a target marker at its location. Also, a small blue sphere resides on the golf ball once it's been detection.

Note: You can manually position the cup using the Scan function and tapping on the screen at the location you prefer.

Does the app help me align the putter?

Yes. Putt Preview includes live centering and aim-assist tools that help you position the putter and understand your intended starting line before each putt.

Can I view the putt line after the putt?

Yes. The optional Display Putt Path feature places markers along the ball's roll path after the putt, allowing you to review the line and pace of the stroke.

Why does the cup sometimes appear larger?

Putt Preview's optional Adaptive Cup feature can increase the effective cup size for longer putts. The feature is designed to support confidence and enjoyment during practice and can be adjusted or turned off at any time. Note: when in the Audit Mode, the Adaptive Cup feature is automatically disabled to ensure a true reflection of performance.

What practice modes are available?

Putt Preview offers a range of practice styles, including:

  • Audit mode for distraction-free, unassisted putting.
  • Practice mode supporting Aim Assist pointers and Stroke Metric tiles.
  • With ARC tool enabled, adjustable Stroke Path angles and alert tolerances.
  • Practice tools for both left- and right-handed golfers.

You can choose how much information and feedback you would like to see during practice.

Are putts recorded automatically?

Yes. Every valid putt is logged automatically. The app ignores accidental ball movement and allows individual putts to be deleted from the session log if needed.

What stroke metrics are available?

Besides context information (e.g. distance, cup size and more), key metrics include:

  • Stroke tempo and total swing duration
  • Backswing length.
  • Pace relative to cup position.
  • Face alignment and address / start line information.
  • Stroke path guide (ARC) information
  • Result metrics (left, right, short, make, lip-out)

Detailed definitions and examples are available in the user documentation.

Can I review and export my results?

Yes. Putt Preview automatically records every session and provides:

  • Putt logs and summaries.
  • Detailed reports and charts.
  • Trend reports by time and putting distance.
  • CSV export for spreadsheet applications.

How many putts can the app store?

Putt Preview stores thousands of putts directly on the device. Results can also be exported and shared for long-term analysis.

Can I practice indoors and outdoors?

Yes. Putt Preview is designed for use both indoors and outdoors.

Do I need Wi-Fi or cellular service?

Wi-Fi is only required to download the app and share reports. Once installed, all putting functions operate directly on the device without Wi-Fi or cellular service.

NOTE: the app will attempt to validate its subscription at least once a week. In this case, it needs access to WIFI to verify status and continue to operate. The app will provide timely warnings if you are not within a WIFI environment for an extended period.
