Frequently Asked Product Questions
Attaches to top of putter grip: Adding weight to a putter shaft is only acceptable in certain circumstances (fitting, counterbalance etc).
We believe: 1. By placing device at the top of grip, significantly reduces impact on putter head MOI (adds equivalent of ~ 4g of mass). 2. Total add-on weight of ~350g offers a degree of counterbalance benefits but is added shaft weight.
Our position: As a putting aid, we believe the substantial benefits and economical value Putt Preview offers, justifies this unique and innovative approach.
How to identify cup and real ball: App utilizes a capable Machine Learning model trained to detect various golf cups, practice green cups and a designated indoor cup marker... a red, regulation size felt disc. (see store for detail). If the camera detects one of these objects, it will tag it as a 'cup' and place a blue disc over that location. Alternatively, you can simply, go into SCAN and tap on the screen where you want the cup to be positioned and a blue disc will appear.
Putter-Ball CENTERING: Yes - there is a live blade centering gauge. It indicates when your putter blade is centered prior to your putt.
Interactive AIM with Cup: App offers live feedback on distance and direction of the putter blade in relation to cup. Both the labeled metrics and animated pointers update many times each second.
Putt Line Guidance: Visual. Putt a virtual Trace ball and view its path. Path is determined by surface slopes and your putt tempo. From this visualization, you will be able to adjust for your real ball putt. NOTE: for this to function outdoors, the putting surface needs to be clean and clear or the virtual ball will likely experience interference.
Putting practice options: Auto-replace Trace ball to its origin after your putt - this is a significant and efficient method of practice. Using Putting Tools - by selecting a tool, the tool image will be superimposed onto the surface. ARC and Guide tool templates are available. ARC template can be adjusted from 6 to 24 degrees in 2 degree increments (supports both left and right handed players.
Putt RESULTS auto logged: System first verifies if it's a valid putt e.g. you may bump the ball - this will not meet the 'valid putt' requirements. Also, any putt can be deleted by a simple 'backward swipe' on the row in the Putt Log table. A Delete confirmation will occur and the row will be deleted.
You mention Stroke Metrics... Yes. Under the Tools & Self Assessment section, you can enable live putt metrics.
1. Stroke Tempo - defined as time of downswing divided into the time of the backswing stroke. The system compares your Tempo result to a typical norm of 2.0 and will present (and may even comment on) the result.
2. Backswing length - length of back swing - defined as - distance from head position at address of ball to reverse of swing to downswing. We use the 'rule of thumb' norm: '...for every inch of backswing length, the ball should roll ~1 foot on a level surface with medium green speed'. For norm references, please view our menu: Files & Documents > Tools & Self Assessment Mode document.
3. Speed of Putter Head: If we have the surface speed setting and the putter head mass (both selectable in our Options menu) together with the putt distance, the Tempo (we have downSwing time) and backswing length, we are able to estimate the speed the putter head needs to travel to transfer enough energy to the ball in order to arrive at the cup. We thus, derive the Speed Norm using a classic physics formula.
Can RESULTS be transferred? Yes. An EXPORT function is available which includes the setup, result and app configuration for each putt (csv format - spreadsheet compatible). The device itself will store the most recent 2000 putts.
What do I do if I want to keep ALL my putts, not only the most recent 2000 in the putt log? There is an Upload option where you are able to transfer all your incremental putts (since last upload) into a MAC software application (soon to be available for download at this store - currently in trials). It offers almost identical reporting as the app...but can handle multiple devices and has substantial volume storage (limited by hardware). It also contains a few additional features e.g. time trend charts.
Results are listed & summarized: Yes - by outcome, distance, type & more
Location: Indoors & Outdoors
WIFI & Internet connection: No - putting functionality operates without the need of WIFI or a network connection.
